My Cancer Journal

THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, 2023 (C DAY +188)

This morning at 8:30, I checked in for my chemotherapy treatment.  Deena was at my side as she always is.  I could not bear this trial without her presence and support. My regular nurse practitioner is on vacation, but the nurse who filled in did an excellent job herself.  I requested the technician who catheterized me last time to perform the honors once again, and today’s procedure was the least uncomfortable by far, though I felt a little “off” during the treatment and afterwards.  COVID cases are ticking upward in the country, but the likely reason is that I had not slept well last night. My seasonal allergies are in full swing. But my recovery later in the day was uneventful.

It looks like the clinic will try to squeeze in one more treatment before my next cystoscopy if they can get me a date in October to be scoped.  The clinic is running on a very tight schedule. The regimen will be repeated (three monthly chemotherapy treatments followed by a cycoscopy, and then repeated until the cancer returns or the surveillance is scaled back.)

Deena and I are both thankful about our treatment options, but a bit concerned, over continued shortages of chemotherapeutic drugs which until now do not seem to have affected the preparations that I receive. Hopefully, that won’t change in the future.
